German-Check – Find your German level!
This test assesses your German skills from A1 to B2. All sections follow the principle "from easy to difficult". However, to reach the highest level, you must also complete the easier tasks. If you don’t know the correct answer, simply skip the question and move on.
The test is checked automatically, and you will receive your result immediately after finishing.
Lesen
This section evaluates your ability to work with written texts: whether you can understand and relate written information, and whether your vocabulary and understanding of structures are sufficient for text-based tasks. The tasks are closely aligned with the format of exams at the respective CEFR levels. For level A1, you will need about 20 minutes or less, A2 – approximately 30 minutes, B1 – 40 minutes, and B2 – around 50 minutes. To confirm a higher level, you must complete tasks from the previous levels as well – but they will take less time. You may move on to the next task as soon as you finish the current one, even if the time limit has not yet expired.
Hören
This part tests your listening comprehension skills. Some tasks will be played twice, others only once. Pay attention to both text and voice instructions. Use pauses to read the tasks carefully. Duration: A1 – 8 min, A1–A2 – 17 min, A1–B1 – 28 min, A1–B2 – 41 min
Schreiben
This part tests your grammar and your ability to understand text structures at a given level. Each task has a set time limit, but you can move on to the next one as soon as you finish. Maximum time: A1 – 18 min, A2 – 27 min, B1 – 24 min, B2 – 25 min.
(If you reach B2, the test won’t take longer than 40 minutes in total.)
Sprechen
Unfortunately, we are not able to hear your voice or directly assess your speaking skills. However, our test evaluates fixed expressions and structures commonly used in spoken language. At higher levels, you will complete tasks that check correct word usage in context and cohesion in speech. For level A1, you will need up to 10 minutes, A2 – up to 20 minutes, B1 – up to 30 minutes, and B2 – up to 50 minutes. To confirm a higher level, you must complete the tasks from the previous levels as well – these will take less time. You may move on to the next task as soon as you finish the current one, even if the time limit has not yet expired.
To get the most accurate result, do not answer the tasks at random. If you don’t know which answer to give, simply skip the item and move on to the next one. To achieve a higher level, you need to complete the tasks of all previous levels.
